Esbjerg, 18 May 2022: “We must be courageous and start now: offshore wind farms help us to halt man-made climate change and to become more energy-independent.” At the North Sea Summit on Wednesday, the Federal Chancellor advocated for closer collaboration of the states bordering the North Sea to produce more offshore wind power.

Berlin, 19 May 2022: “War in our immediate neighbourhood is, without doubt, the greatest challenge” that the European Union has had to cope with in the last few years, said Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz in his government statement concerning the upcoming EU Council in the German Bundestag on Thursday.

“We all share the same goal: Russia must not win this war. Ukraine must survive,” said Scholz. As the largest member state, Germany bears a particular responsibility for the unity of the European Union, he said. In his role as Federal Chancellor he is going to stand up for a European response at the special meeting of heads of state and government.

At the start of the evening, the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte received the Federal Chancellor at his official residence in The Hague. Once again, their talks focussed on the current situation in Ukraine.

“We provide financial, humanitarian and also military support to Ukraine. A joint German-Dutch project has recently commenced to train Ukrainian forces in the use of the heavy artillery that our countries are making available to them,” the Federal Chancellor said.

Members of the Y7 drew up their own political demands and ideas for solutions to current global challenges and handed these over to the Federal Chancellor. They will be taken into account during the G7 process as the perspective of the young generation.
