"The problems we have in Germany can be solved through our own efforts. Let's mobilise this power together." So said Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz at Familienunternehmer-Tagen 2025 in Berlin. The motto of this year's event was "Dare to make a new start!".

The Federal Government wants to provide companies with practical support in this regard. In his speech, the Federal Chancellor recognised the commitment of Die Familienunternehmer as an association to the interests of family businesses in Germany.

Around 90 per cent of all German companies are family businesses. They generate around 37 per cent of all sales in Germany and employ over half of all employees subject to social security contributions. Family businesses thus make a tremendously important contribution to prosperity and innovation in Germany.

The most important points of the Federal Chancellor's speech in brief:

  • More competitiveness: The Federal Chancellor emphasised that the main problem was the economy's lack of price competitiveness. "We want to change that," said the Federal Chancellor. Companies need to become more profitable and competitive.
  • More digitalisation: According to Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz, the topics of digitalisation and state modernisation are now being seriously addressed by a new ministry with comprehensive competencies.
  • Less bureaucracy: The high bureaucratic hurdles must be lowered, the Federal Chancellor continued. One step would be talks with the European Commission to achieve a real reduction in bureaucracy in the European Union. But the Federal Government will also act accordingly and implement directives on a one-to-one basis.”
  • Better energy policy: According to the Federal Chancellor, energy must be affordable, safe and open to technology. To this end, the Federal Government would like to provide significant and rapid relief for companies in particular, for example with regard to the electricity tax and network charges.
