Berlin, 30 May 2023: Two decades after completion of the Chancellery, it needs to be extended. Like the Chancellery itself, the extension was designed by the architects Axel Schultes and Charlotte Frank. They met the Federal Chancellor on Tuesday.
Berlin, 31 May 2023: Overfertilisation and nitrate pollution are a threat to groundwater and ecosystems in some parts of Germany. Costs for clean drinking water are rising. In order to promote water protection, the Federal Cabinet decided on Wednesday to make changes to fertiliser law.
On Wednesday the Federal Chancellor attended the Deutscher Sparkassentag in Hanover. In the so-called Hanover Declaration, it was decided at this largest gathering of the Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe, the biggest financial services group in Germany, that know-how and loan funds would be provided in future to assist in the energy transition.
In his speech Scholz stressed the role of financial institutes in funding the energy transition. “What we are going to decide and implement will not place an unmanageable financial burden on anyone,” he said.
Chișinău, 1 June 2023: Federal Chancellor Scholz said that the European Political Community Summit he attended on Thursday was a “declaration of belief in a European security and peace order in which the inviolability of borders is acknowledged”. He was welcomed by the host, Moldova’s President Maia Sandu.
Sandu and the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, invited 47 heads of state and government of the EU member states and other European states. The goal of this exchange was to promote political cooperation in order to strengthen security and prosperity in Europe.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky was also invited to the Summit held in the neighbouring country. The Federal Chancellor stressed once again: “Together we stand closely by Ukraine’s side. We will not let up and will continue to support Ukraine politically, financially, in terms of humanitarian aid and with arms deliveries."
